Dog Behavior Training Starts Now

While having a dog can be an amazing way of enjoying a loving companion, Pug recommends to train him so he has a proper dog behavior. Most of the time, people think that these dog behavior problems need to be treated by a professional, thinking it is a difficult task. However, studies have shown that when owners try to correct these problems on their dogs, it’s more effective and quick. It goes without saying that dealing with dog behavior issues requires a lot of hard work and patience, yet it’s not impossible and in the end it’s all worth it.

If you got your dog as a puppy, Pug recommends to start training your dog from the very beginning so that any dog behavior issues can be prevented. There are many aspects one must consider when it comes to dog behavior training, however, there are three main things: stop dog digging, housebreaking, properly walking on a leash and following a few basic commands. In order to do so, it’s important to have a few things at hand: a leash, a training collar and any sort of reward (treats, food or a toy your dog likes). When it comes to correcting dog behavior, it’s always important to prefer praising good behavior instead of punishing bad behavior, as dogs react better to this sort of treatment.

If you are housebreaking your dog, try taking it outside at least every two hours until he gets used to the idea that he has to go potty outside and not in your house. If you want to teach your dog how to properly walk with you put on the dog collar, the leash and you need to always show him that you are the boss, that you are the Alpha dog. This way, he’ll start walking behind you (think about a wolf pack, with its leader in front of the pack), more calmly now. Afterwards, it’s all about showing him it is not OK to go potty anywhere he wants and neither is barking at anything or anyone that crosses your path. As Pug stated before, you must not be violent with him: a simple tug on the leash and a forceful “No!” are more than enough. It is important to make this a daily activity, as routines helps dogs get used to this new dog behavior quicker.

One thing dog owners worry most about is what to do when their pets start displaying serious dog behavior issues such aggression. There have been cases in which dogs have been put to sleep due this sort of dog behavior. While there are do-it-yourself trainings, it’s best to look for professional help to avoid worsening this aggressive dog behavior.

Whether you have a puppy or an adult dog, treating dog behavior problems is a must, as this can make the difference in future.
